They incorporated because the City of Atlanta had tried to annex them, coming close on several occasions. This would have increased property taxes and diminished property values significantly. The formation of their own city was the only permanent solution.Austinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03219144177463442096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3276072416212541005.post-55113396053785978242009-04-20T09:37:00.000-04:002009-04-20T09:37:00.000-04:00First off... the lies about Fulton County spending...First off... the lies about Fulton County spending money to build South Fulton is a lie that has somehow continued to be told. Our roads have always been bad. The main roads are manned by the state. South Fulton remains largely rural to this day.

The truth be told Fulton Industrial Blvd built Sandy Springs. At one point it was the largest and most profitable industrial park east of the Mississippi. Fulton County used that money to build out Sandy Springs. South Fulton didn't see any of the money that was generated in its backyard. That's why the area is still fairly rural.
That's one reason Sandy Springs shouldn't be allowed to "secede" into Milton County, two Sandy Springs has always been in Fulton County; never part of the old Milton Co.

Atlanta is it's own district and another story. The county can't use tax money for Public Works improvements inside Atlanta. So that is another lie that continues to be told. Most of the money Fulton spends in Atlanta is for the poor for health and senior services. That money doesn't get to South Fulton.Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04316303485823413743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3276072416212541005.post-8908316381360202962009-04-18T19:14:00.000-04:002009-04-18T19:14:00.000-04:00I spent almost 8 years in Atlanta (mostly Inman Pa...I spent almost 8 years in Atlanta (mostly Inman Park) and almost 8 years away from it now. Your story reminds me of why I used to scoff when I'd hear "The City Too Busy to Hate."

This whole teabagger and secesh talk is a bit sad and more than a little bothersome. I hope these fools don't go and do something too foolish.boukman70https://www.blogger.com/profile/03136977500437036141noreply@blogger.com
