The Brown Man had a field day on Twitter yesterday with this Andrew Breitbart & ABC News thing:

TWEETS

With Andrew Breitbart on the payroll, I guess Disney now sells everything from cotton candy fantasy to race-based hate.

Andrew Morse of ABC, I know you don't want to hire too many minorities, but is Breitbart THE ONLY white man with a blog who can do this?

ABC's execs are so in love with Andrew "Blame-A-Black-Today" Breitbart they will let him send smoke signals from an undisclosed location.

I mean, what 500K a year ABC exec had the bright idea to say okay to Andrew "A Framed Negro Is A Good Negro" Breitbart?

ABC's hiring of Andrew Breitbart to comment of the election is like hiring Bernie Madoff to "do a little bookkeeping"

So long as ABC cuts Andrew Breitbart a check George Stephanopoulos can go fuck a duck - there is no open season on black women in MY America.

Andrew Morse @ABC, here's a thought - just got to Technorati, click on "Political Blogs", and pick one of the top 100 to replace Breitbart.

Andrew Breitbart shows over and over that his sole purpose in life is to fight for the right to distort the truth.

But yapping is just yapping unless you take some kind action. From my pals over at Color Of Change:

Below is the message we'll send to David Westin, President of ABC News; Anne Sweeney, President Disney/ABC Television Group; and Robert Iger, President/CEO of the Walt Disney Company. You can add your own personal comments in the box to the left.

Dear Mr. Westin, Ms. Sweeney, and Mr. Iger,

I find it appalling that ABC News would give Andrew Breitbart a platform on election night, given his history as a serial race-baiter who has shown no regard for the truth. Only months ago Mr. Breitbart was publicly disgraced for smearing Shirley Sherrod of the USDA, using selectively edited video and lies that he repeatedly uttered. After Breitbart was exposed, he refused to apologize, even as multiple news outlets had to themselves issue retractions and apologies.

I would expect ABC News and The Walt Disney Company to have some basic standard of integrity for those to whom it extends its media platform. Your present decision indicates otherwise and comes across as a slap in the face to Shirley Sherrod, to Black Americans, and to decent people of every background who believe in the basic value of truth-telling.

Andrew Breitbart has repeatedly shown he has no regard for the truth. By inviting him to participate in your Election Day programming, you are inviting your credibility to be called into question, while providing undeserved legitimacy to Andrew Breitbart.

I respectfully request that you rescind your offer inviting Andrew Breitbart to participate in your Election Day programming.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Reading my blog is great, but you need to sign up with Color Of Change, or send this letter to their email addresses or Twitter accounts, or call their front desk on Monday like your life depends on it.

DO IT TODAY! AND TOMORROW!

Do you get it, ABC? No Breitbart on ANYTHING, even if he's giving it away for free - not even if he shows up with an NAACP membership card.

Juan Williams Takes The Buckwheat Seat At FOX

Juan Williams Takes The Buckwheat Seat At FOX

Maybe it was a good thing that I was headed out of town the day Juan Williams got whacked by the NPR head honchos. Because it probably wouldn’t have taken more than two or three hours before I would have had to write "take your handkerchief head wearing ass somewhere and sit the hell down."

By the time I got back from the great state of Kentucky earlier this week, where people in wheelchairs and on walkers come a dime a dozen and sorely neglected teeth are de rigueur, but the populace still hates the thought of getting any help from the federal government even though government money is the only thing propping their state up these days, all I could do was watch as Magic Bishop Don Juan Williams took his pimp game to FOX News for a full-time gig.

Tea Party Candidate Handcuffs Member Of The Fourth Estate

There is no communist or socialist ideology that is as poisonous as the one held by radical Republicans these days. No fascism as insidious as the warped political creed that drove Alaska senate candidate Joe Miller to hire the kind of private security team who operates as if it has the right to take the law into its own hands. The fantasies Miller has foisted on the Alaskan public about his past life are unraveling before his very eyes, making his own calls for more personal responsibility and accountability in government look exactly like the hollow platitudes that charlatans and imposters often hide behind.

Alaska Dispatch editor Tony Hopfinger was handcuffed by security guards at a Joe Miller town hall event Sunday afternoon. Hopfinger says he approached Miller to ask questions, but was arrested for half an hour until police arrived. According to Hopfinger, Miller’s security team pushed him and he pushed back because he felt his personal space was being invaded. He says guards detained him and accused him of trespassing, although the town hall was a public event held at Central Middle School, a public building.

“At some point I was suddenly surrounded by more guys, more security guards I guess,” Hopfinger said. “They were kind of putting their chest into me, and at one point I put my chest in too -- it got to be too much.” Hopfinger says the incident escalated so fast he barely remembers what happened, and that next thing he knew he was in handcuffs.

The Alaska Dispatch is one of several news organizations suing for access to Miller's employment records at the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Miller worked at the FNSB as a part-time attorney from 2002 to 2009.

I will be on the radio tonight at 8:00 pm EST with Sean Yoes, senior reporter at The Afro American, giving my own two cents on the Tea Party, the exodus of staffers at the White House, and other political topics. Yoes is the host of "The WEAA/AFRO First Edition", an hour-long political talk show on Baltimore's NPR affiliate WEAA-FM (88.9 FM), which airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m.

The real deal tonight isn't the politics, but the radio station, which is doing one of its semi-annual pledge drives to help keep them on the air. I know times are tight, but if you have enjoyed any of the programs at WEAA in the past, consider making a donation towards the operating expenses of this Baltimore based NPR affiliate.

I've been coming on the AFRO/First Edition show once or twice a month for over a year now. It is always fun. Sound engineer Mike Nyce makes my phone interviews sound almost as good as if I was in the studio. Producer Korey Freeman keeps me abreast of the topics to be discussed. And my man Sean Yoes, the show's host, has the ability to shut out whatever else is going on in my day with a simple "are you ready" delivered in his distinctive baritone.

So tonight, my appearance is actually going to be two ten minute segments. I'm not sure exactly what time they'll be on. But it really doesn't matter, because tonight, its all about the Benjamins for the station.

If you like the alternative viewpoints public radio brings to the table, show WEAA some love and make a pledge of $25, $50, $100 or more.

You can click this link and push the "Listen Live" button at the top of the page to hear the show.

Enjoy!

America Not Ready To Put Learning In Prime Time

Everywhere you turn, there is much commentary these days about the education oriented documentary Waiting For Superman. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but it really doesn’t matter, because I would be biased before I walked in the theater. My mother, her sisters, in fact every aunt I have except one was or is a school teacher, and the one who wasn’t still wound up working in the public school system. These are women who molded the lives of thousands of students, training their charges to read, write and reason. In fact, there were only two adults who were not educators in my entire neighborhood (it was small) growing up, so I will probably be pro-teacher or pro-professor for the rest of my life.

I’ve said it here before and I’ll say it again, because somebody needs to call a spade a spade—America as a nation is simply not ready for prime time when it comes to getting serious about educating our nation’s children. It is not ready, nor is there any preponderance of the population that is seriously interested in real solutions to maximize the effectiveness of our educational process. The majority of us are not interested in real solutions because real solutions would require changing the day-to-day habits of parents, instead of offering one of those presto change-o magic silver bullet answers that puts the entire responsibility on someone else, as if these are not our own children, and allow us to avoid the sorely needed rearranging of the priorities in our home lives.

Today At Big Think: What Kind Of Gun Would Jesus Carry?

Today's topic at my blog "Resurgence" on BigThink.com:

What Kind Of Gun Would Jesus Carry?

Would it be a classic pearl handled six shooter? A double barreled shotgun with a hand carved stock? An AK-47 semi-automatic assault carbine with laser sights? Or would he simply strap a belt of ammo over each arm and tote a machine gun, Arnold Schwarzenegger style?

The image of Jesus carrying a gun goes against the ideals of love, forgiveness and redemption that define his biblical characterization, yet we have entered a phase in American public life where those willing to spout this same type of ideological incoherence for political gain wear their ignorance as if it is a badge of honor.

The tenets of Judeo-Christianity revolve around a very progressive minded set of spiritual beliefs, yet the most ardent followers of Christianity in America are likely to be some of the least tolerant people socially and politically.

America’s Fears Bigger Than Its Dreams

If you are planning on holding a large political rally in Washington, and you want to do it right, you really need to buy a TV network first, so you can get tons of free publicity. The One Nation rally, which took place on the Mall in Washington yesterday, has gotten so little press it can be considered a stealth rally.

Meanwhile, a thousand print and TV journalists are combing through their news feeds for the latest gaffe by Christine O’Donnell, and keeping their fingers crossed that Sarah Palin will pull herself away from her daughter Bristol’s Dancing With The Stars performances long enough to oblige them with a incendiary tweet.

News anchors repeat the dollar amounts of ad buys by corporate donors disguised as political action groups the way the personalities on Entertainment Tonight quote movie box office revenues, as if a deluge of television ads will actually obligate the sliver of voters who have no idea who they will push the button for in November to chose the side of the political party who runs the most commercials.

And a now famous high school graduate, commonly known to be allergic to any form of higher learning until he got out of rehab a few years ago, often stands in front of a whiteboard on his TV show and apes the Socratic method with his own twisted brand of circular reasoning and creative interpretations of historical events, purports to “teach” America everything he willingly admits he ignored back in high school.

Barnes & Noble's Pubit! About To Launch

I got an email yesterday from Pubit!, a new service that will allow writers to publish their own ebooks and offer them for sale on Barnes & Noble’s website, announcing Pubit!’s imminent launch. Barnes & Noble may be the world’s biggest bookseller, but Amazon is the world’s biggest ebook seller. According to the daily digest of publishing news I receive from Publisher’s Weekly, ebooks aren’t the future of the book business, they are what’s happening now.

Less than half an hour after I reopened the Pubit! email this morning, I was signed up. It took that long only because I spent twenty minutes studying the publisher’s agreement, royalty terms and content policies. I’ve been waiting for this site to launch all summer. In fact, Barnes & Noble had announced that it would be launched this summer, so maybe Indian summer is what they were really shooting for all along.
